BLIA was founded in 1992 in Los Angeles, CA, USA by Grand Master Hsing Yun. Over the following years, we established chapters throughout the five continents while increasing our membership and serving communities worldwide. In 2003, BLIA has been honored by ECOSOC as NGO in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and social Council of the United Nations. At the present, BLIA has chapters all over the world and has thousands of members from different countries and races.
Our Mission Statement
BLIA’s mission is to apply tenets of Humanistic Buddhism to benefit society through promoting education, raising gender equality, providing medical services and emergency relief, and supporting environmental sustainability.
